A Live-streaming Mixed Media Installation

Description

This media installation explores the possibilities of space through the positioning of devices such as screens and mechanical scales in physical space, as well as moving digital images, and real livestreaming from the International Space Station. We feel a seemingly weightless digital space on the screen, does this space have physical weight? If the measured weight is only the weight of the screen itself, then the space we perceive on the screen is an illusion, where subject and object become unified. Especially when it comes to digital space, the term space is no longer interpreted within the scope of empiricism and semantic philosophy.

The arrangement of objects in space, both physical and digital, reflects various dimensions through their placement and overlapping. In digital environments like open-world video games, the vastness of space raises questions about its measurability and weight, contrasting the tangible weight of physical objects. Despite this, the weight of digital space is rooted in human cognition and memory, shaping our perception of its expansiveness. Optical illusions further challenge our understanding of space, such as the illusion of movement created by a stationary walking robot. Similarly, real-time broadcasts from the International Space Station merge cognitive and physical spaces, connecting individuals despite physical distances. This interconnectedness highlights the existence of an intangible yet palpable space facilitated by technological advancements.
